The OH WATCH 2-Way radio system is in fact the glue that keeps the Neighbourhood Watch together. OH WATCH has installed a complete 2-Way Radio communication system in Oranjezicht Higgovale, but we need more members to support it by purchasing a radio.

Step 1: Register your details on this site under Membership

Step 2: Transfer R1950 (2-way radio incl spare battery, accessories, allowance for initial license fee of R50 per annum and an OH Watch Signboard for your home and the R200 annual membership fee to OH Watch) plus any voluntary donation to:

Name of account: OH Watch
Bank: First National Bank
Branch: Gardens
Branch code: 201511
Account number: 62212483680
Ref: Your Name (under which you’ve registered on this site)

OH Watch has two second hand radios in good condition from folk who have moved out of the area. These are available at R950.

Step 3: Please e-mail proof of your deposit to radios@ohwatch.co.za If you do not do this we may not be able to trace you, as it is possible that we do not have your details on our database, or that we will not receive an SMS regarding your payment from our bank.

An OH-Watch Exco member will make contact with you once your radio is programmed and ready to collect (please allow up to 2 days to hear from us, otherwise contact us).

Don’t worry, the operation is far easier than a cell-phone and the opportunities to prevent crimes and get help in any emergency are in our hands!

The radios use a dedicated, ICASA assigned, frequency to communicate with all OH WATCH members, South African Police Service (SAPS), City Bowl Armed Response (CBAR, ADT and WatchCom (Neighbourhood Watch 24/7/365 dedicated control room and communications hub).

Thus far, over 160 radios have been purchased by OH WATCH residents and members have also generously donated a radio to SAPS. we have a radio in the CBAR control room and the ADT patrol vehicle. The communication on our dedicated OH WATCH frequency is an invaluable tool in the prevention of crime and apprehension of criminals, as has been proven with the Tamboerskloof and Camps Bay Neighbourhood Watches. OH WATCH encourages you to purchase a radio.

OH Watch has been encouraged by OH Watch Members who have purchased radios for other members who are not able to make the finances available for a radio themeselves, in particular senior citizens who are often at home and can be the eyes and ears of the community. This is what makes this neighbourhood so special.

Please Note Radio Checks are conducted twice daily at 7am and 7pm, except for Sunday mornings and Public Holiday mornings when the radio check is at 8am. Please check in regularly so that you know your radio is working and that you get to feel comfortable using the radio. OH Watch looks forward to hearing you on the radio.

The radios that the majority of OH Watch radio users have purchased are HYT TC 500, and the price indicated above is for this model, charger, spare battery and the annual R50 ICASA license fee. OH Watch can also supply more sophisticated radios such as the Motorola CP 160 which has all the bells and whistles such as a scan option to monitor all active channels. This radio is double the price of the HYT TC 500. Should you wish to purchase this model, e-mail radios@ohwatch.co.za.

To those of you who already have radios and need new batteries (batteries last over a year), OH Watch has stock. Batteries are R250 each.

From time to time, OH Watch has second hand radios available from members who have moved out of the area. These are sold at R1 000. Please enquire at radios@ohwatch.co.za
