Please report every incident to OH WATCH. Even if a crime was not committed, and you have information about suspicious persons or activity, please let us know. CRIME REPORT 13 - 19 MAY 2013

Hi Folks

Here are the crime stats from last week. While the numbers look pretty good, bear in mind that a number of attempted crimes have been halted by quick action by security companies, patrollers and the police in this last week. So the criminals are clearly not letting up in their attempts to commit crime in our area. Please continue to be vigilant. Report suspicious activity whenever you see it.

Showhouse thief visits showhouse on Pinnoak Road

OH Watch Member Reports

Show house thief came to my show day at Pinoak Rd at 3 pm on Sunday (28 April)

Nothing was stolen. I followed him around and told him to leave.

The usual show day thief came to my show house at 3 pm on Sunday. The taxi was parked down the road so I did not see it. He came in and as soon as he said he was looking for his mother I knew it was him. He was unshaven so hard to recognise. His photo was on the table and I told him I would have to follow him around but he did not get the hint. I followed him around and when he asked to use the toilet (the bathroom was full of goodies) I told him he could not and that he must leave. He was upset and said this was not usual practise and I told him that he is welcome to report me to the Estate Agents board. I escorted him out and then I saw the taxi. I told him I knew that he stole from show houses and that I would be reporting him. He then went on to another property in Davenport Road. I contacted my sitter and one of them alerted Misha from OH Watch who called me and notified all the relevant bodies (Including DPV Watch as I understood). Nothing was taken.”

Gave chase and failed to catch up. I am sure this is the same guy, I have seen on a few occassions in the area. From the description they gave, we suspect this is the guy. Police were called, and a statement was taken. A cap was found, in the bushes, do not know what happened re follow up. This guy is obviously surviving in the area, and we suspect he is sleeping in the bushes. We have also notified, parks board to follow up.”

Break in Rosemead Avenue 07 May 2013

OH Member Reports

residential break-in
Roseleigh, Rosmead Avenue
5- LEEUWEN
Date & Time when incident took place: 7 May 2013 13:45
Investigating Officer & Case Number: Officer Ngunda, CAS 429/5/2013
Incident Description: “On 7 May 2013, there was a break-in at Roseleigh complex (37 Rosmead Avenue) involving 3 (three) flats in the block. The suspects looked to have gained entry to the access gate to the block as a whole and to the access gate for the one side of the block which was affected (both these security gates were not tampered with). They went to the top floor where they opened our flat’s security gate (also not tampered with - a key looks to have been used). Our front door was crowbarred open and they stole approximately goods amounting to approximately R55 000 (fifty five thousand rand) - TV, laptop, docking station, kindle, photo printer, towels/linen, clothing, jewellry, hair straightener, watch. The suspects then went to the floor below and crowbarred the security gate and door of another flat where some goods (including a laptop and camera) were stolen. They then crowbarred the security gate and front door of the flat opposite. The woman livin g in the flat was at home at the time and when one of the suspects saw her, they ran away. She had previously noted that there was a suspicious car outside the flat (occupied by 2 black males and 1 black female). The suspects seemed to have dropped a pair of keys in the bedroom - they look like they are for a gate/door in our complex but we have not yet ascertained whether they actually fit any of the locks. Fingerprints have been taken.”

CRIME REPORT 29 APRIL - 5 MAY 2013

Hi Folks

Feedback from the Crime-Free Day event that took place on Friday: the outcome was very positive. 18 arrests were made on the night. A number of crimes in progress were halted and as a result crime over the whole weekend in the city was very low. What was also great to see was almost 90 members from various neighbourhood watches taking part, including some visitors from Claremont Neighbourhood Watch. It would be great to see more OH Watch members participating in the future.

Here is the crime report for last week. The incidents are down in our area do remain low, but the increase in the incidents of housebreakings is a big concern

Attempted mugging Upper Orange 23 April 2013

OH Watch Member Reports

ATTEMPTED MUGGING
Address where Incident took Place
1 - ORANGE
Date & Time when incident took place
Approx. 09:00 on Tuesday, the 3rd April 2013

Incident Description.

En route back from the Medi-Clinic in Hof Street, and upon exiting De Waal Park into Orange Street opposite the Salvation Army Hospital (Booth Memorial Hospital), two reasonably well dressed black men aged of approx. between 26 and 32 years of age were foiled in their attempt to mug me. They were walking slowly up Orange Street at the edge of the pavement, seemingly in a deep conversation.

I got a bad feeling about these two “buddies” and crossed Orange Street, having been mugged 150m from my apartment in Rosemount Avenue once before by two men using the same modus operandi.

Once outside the Booth Memorial Hospital on the Orange Street side, I walked for another 5 - 10 metres and then suddenly turned around to see where these two men were: One was parallel to me on the far side of Orange Street and the second good looking younger man was coming up behind me. He then sat down very quickly in the recently erected MyCiti bus stop outside the hospital, pretending that he wished to make a telephone call. I then walked towards him and confronted him. I spoke loudly in order that the cleaning staff - a young man - at the hospital would see and hear what was happening.

DESCRIPTION: Both are slender and agile, well nourished and have full sets of teeth and are of the same height - approximately 1,8 in height.

The younger and good looking young man has short curly black ear length dreadlocks(?) style hair and was wearing a pair of black pants and a whitish/cream t-shirt with a green stripe along the lower waist. He had a rucksack on his back, colour unknown. He also carried a cellphone.

The second of the two men was more aggressive in nature and was wearing a dark blue or black (?) and red striped t-shirt, the stripes running from left to right. He was wearing a pair of bluish-grey pants (jeans?) and had a rucksack on his back. His eyes were slightly angular. He was also wearing a pendant - a shell? - on a black leather (plastic) thread around his neck. There was something green attached to this pendant, but I cannot recall exactly what.

The younger of the two said that they were on their way to work, but they could not give me an address and proceeded to walk unhurriedly up Orange Street, passing the hockey field on the left, then turning right into Belvedere Road heading in the direction of Molteno Ave, possibly Higgovale.

It was advised over the radio after my return home that a domestic worker in Belvedere Road also reported seeing these two men walking in a strange manner.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THESE TWO PERSONS AND REPORT ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS IMMEDIATELY.
